Temporary power at 2008 Beijing Olympics
A highly reliable power supplier was required to provide
uninterrupted, seamless power for the Beijing Olympic Games 2008.
With Olympic venues spread out all through Beijing and the
surrounding country, the Beijing Olympic Committee needed a
supplier who could work together with the local utility company.
Vast amounts of power to support the infrastructure and opening and
closing ceremonies were required.
130 MW of power (307 generators)
Aggreko provided 130 MW of power to 37 venues in three cities:
Beijing, Qingdao and Hong Kong. This included fully-redundant power
supply for the IBC (International Broadcast Center) which provided
over 30 MW of un-interruptible power to broadcast the opening
ceremonies to over 496 million eager viewers around the world.

Commenting on the project, Xu Jian, Director of
Construction and Environment Department of BOCOG stated:
